What is nerve pain?
Nerve pain, or neuropathic pain, occurs when damage or dysfunction affects the nervous system. Unlike muscle or joint pain, it presents as burning, shooting, or electric-shock sensations that can persist even without an obvious injury.
When should you see a neurologist?
Consider booking a neurology consultation if your nerve pain has lasted more than three months, is worsening over time, or is affecting your ability to sleep or work. Early assessment is key to preventing further damage.
Seek specialist advice if you notice weakness, numbness, or coordination problems alongside your pain: symptoms that may indicate peripheral neuropathy or radiculopathy, both of which respond well to targeted neurological treatment.
